This Isn’t Ley’s Job.
It’s His Purpose on This Earth.
Ley doesn’t remember a time in his life when he wasn’t around people with intellectual disabilities.
As a kid, there were always “different folks” in Ley’s life, people he only saw when he was around his parents. He knew they were different. But it was common, comfortable, and a normal part of his childhood.
These people could be at his home playing in the afternoon, be at “summer camp” when he went to “work” with his Dad, or at weekend events sitting with Ley, his mom, dad, and sister. They were people his parents worked with and cared for, who often were getting little care beyond their basic needs.
And these early experiences, the relationships formed with the people who spent time at his house and during summers, made an impression on Ley. He began to understand people with intellectual disabilities. He empathized with them. He understood what they were feeling. And he believes what he’s learned from them can apply to everyone.
Ley’s work isn’t a job. It’s what he feels is his massive transformative purpose. And it is a lifetime pursuit.
Ley Understands People Who Are Misunderstood
Ley’s spent his life building relationships and serving people with all types of intellectual and developmental disabilities. He focuses on behavioral gerontology and the behavioral presentations of medical issues, while specializing in neurocognitive disorders.
His entire career has been focused in health and human services, and in 2015, Ley founded Crescent Behavioral Health, which provides behavior analytic services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Ley is an award-winning writer and a regular contributor to national publications such as HELEN: The Journal of Human Exceptionality and the National Down Syndrome Society’s Aging and Down Syndrome Guidebook.
